FMCS

What is FMCS (Foreign Manufacturers Certification Scheme)?

The Foreign Manufacturers Certification Scheme (FMCS) is a certification program by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) that allows overseas manufacturers to use the ISI Mark on products exported to India. It ensures that foreign-made products comply with all applicable Indian Standards (IS) for safety, quality, and performance.

Key Features of FMCS

  • Applicable to foreign manufacturers whose products fall under mandatory ISI certification.

  • Requires factory audit, product testing in BIS-recognized labs, and compliance with BIS guidelines.

  • Successful applicants receive a license to use the ISI Mark on approved products.

  • Ensures that imported goods meet the same quality standards as domestic products.

Who Needs FMCS?

Any overseas manufacturer exporting regulated products to India—such as electrical appliances, steel items, chemicals, cement, laboratory glassware, etc.—must obtain FMCS certification.
